Creating a Healthy Hair Care Routine

Our regimen or routine is simply a way we care for our hair. It is a must have for every natural HAIRLISTA, wanting to achieve healthy natural hair. Your routine doesn't need to be massive or expensive.  Consistency & Simplicity are key.  Growth doesn't just happen overnight its usually the result of patience over a period of time. Below you will find some basic information useful in creating your own haircare regimen.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR HAIR


The  number one basic step to creating a regimen is understanding your hair  type, porosity, density, elasticity and hair texture.

CHOOSING THE CORRECT PRODUCTS



Choosing hair care products is extremely important.  Below are certain ingredients you might want to avoid to maintain healthy natural hair.


-Paraben

-Mineral oil

-Petrolatum

-DEA,TEA,MEA

-FD & C color pigments

-Imidazolidinyl Urea

-DMDM Hydantoin

-Chlorine-Silicon

-Paraffin

-Propylene Glycol

-Isopropyl Alcohol

 WASH ROUTINE

Wash weekly either shampoo(Shamash) or conditioner(Cowash)


 

Shampoo

Finding a good sulfate free and moisturizing shampoo is the way to go. You may want to try alternating with a cowash.

Conditioner:

A paraben free conditioner is best suitable for our natural hair. It can be used as a weekly cowash depending on your hair type, and lifestyle.

DEEP CONDITIONING

Deep Conditioning Treatment after hair wash on damp hair. DC replenishes and adds moisture back into the hair.  It strengthens the hair roots, making your hair more manageable, preventing breakage, split ends, soothes dry scalp.

LEAVE-IN CONDITIONERS

Leave-in  conditioners plays an important role in keeping the hair intact after treatments, as well as on daily basis.  It is important to choose a good leave-in conditioner that is more of  water/liquid based and a sealer oil (like jojoba or argon)



PROTECTIVE STYLING

When  going for protective styles, keep in mind the amount of tension required on your hairor scalp. Traction Alopecia is real!  Hair follicles weakens when excess pressure is put on it which over time results in severe hair breakage in most cases. 

 

NIGHT TIME HAIR CARE



Properly moisturize your hair and Cover with silk/satin scarf or bonnet before going bed.  In the morning when wake up, gently massage your scalp for a few moments to stimulate blood flow.

3.Plastic Cap/nylon bag

4.Measuring spoons

5.Mini bowel for ur DC mix

6.Satin/silk/bonnet cap

7.Soft clean towel or clean old T-shirt (to dry your hair)
